1960 Pirates Tag-Ons Stickers

This super neat item was similar to but 8 years BEFORE
one of my favorites, the 1968 Topps Baseball Action Stickers.
There's a link to that issue at the bottom of this snipet.
This great item was issued by Richard-Lawrence Co. of Pittsburgh
and honors the legendary World Series champion 1960 Pirates who
had just humbled the mighty Yankees.
The (10) 'Tag-Ons' (stickers) inside the brilliantly
colorful 16x10 cardboard envelope feature:
Roberto Clemente, Dick Stuart,
William Mazeroski, Don Hoak, Richard Groat, Robert Skinner,
Bill Virdon, Forrest Burgess, Bob Friend and Elroy Face.
Notice the formal first names used for
"William" Mazeroski, "Richard" Groat and "Forrest" Burgess.

1960 Nu-Card Baseball Hi-Lites Checklist & Prices
This 72-card set of large (3-1/4" x 5-3/8") cards called 'Hi-Lites'
were issued by Nu-Card, Inc. Printed in red and black, the card
fronts resembled a newspaper front page headline with photo.
The backs had trivia questions with answer and also sent you to
another card with more info.
Cards #1-#18 can also be found with just black printing and blank-backed.
They are quite rare ! The last time I checked, out of (200) 1960
Nu-Cards on eBay, NONE were the black only variations !
Other than #1 Ruth, black only cards are nearly identical
differing only in print color and copyright.
The black only cards had a "CVC" copyright while the regular
black/red issue was "NCI" (Nu-Card Inc.).

How long have sports cards been around ? (part 2)
The first important and mainstream basketball set was issued by Bowman in 1948.
Other than a Topps set in 1957-58 and a 1961-62 Fleer set, there were no
mainstream basketball sets issued until Topps started producing yearly sets
beginning with their 1969-70 set featuring the rookie card of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar,
who then went under the name of Lew Alcindor.
In hockey, there were a few sets issued in the 1910's and while O-Pee-Chee issued
some sets in the 1930's, the real modern sets began in 1951 with the itroduction
of Parkhurst's first set.
In racing, while cards go back as far as the early Indy car days of 1911,
modern racing sets began in 1988 with the issues released by MAXX.
