1993 Topps Rockies Inaugural logo

1993 Topps Inaugural
Colorado Rockies Set

In 1993 Topps produced a limited number of special factory sets to honor the Colorado Rockies first season. A special gold foil Rockies logo was added to each card.

The initial print run of 5,000 ran out quickly so the Rockies had 5,000 more sets made. Cards were only available as factory sets so singles and team sets are a bit tougher to find.

Vintage 1962 Post Cereal

1962 Post Cereal Baseball Checklist & Values

Similar to their 1961 set, the 1962 Post Cereal baseball cards were issued on the backs of assorted boxes of Post Cereals, giving kids a fun way to collect their favorite baseball players.

I was a collector back then but for some reason I didn't pay much attention to the Post Cereal cards. I guess I loved my Maypo !!! Actually I loved my Farina with Nestle's Quick on top. But I degress...

Wow !!! Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Roberto Clemente AND a box of cereal !!! How could you go wrong ???

1962 Post was a very popular issue !!! Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris's HOME RUN dual (remember Maris hit 61 in 1961 !) was such a huge deal that cards of Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris were even issued as special inserts in LIFE Magazine.

1962 Post Cereal Canadian was a special version Post made for their Canadian collectors with the text in both French and English . The (2) versions are otherwise very similar and both the American and Canadian versions came in at (200) cards plus a bunch of variations.

Baseball card collecting terms (part D-F)

Die-Cut A special card that differs from a basic card by "Die-Cutting", cutting away portions of the card to create a special design. Most are serially numbered & limited.

Error Card Baseball card history is filled with error cards, many of them very interesting. Hank Aaron is on 2 of my favorite error cards. Aaron's 1956 Topps card action photo shows Aaron sliding home but it is actually Willie Mays not Aaron. Topps again goofed on Aaron's 1957 "reversed negative" card showing Aaron batting left-handed.

"Error Cards" are usually found early in print runs and often corrected. When this correction happens a VARIATION is created. Some variations are extremely interesting and very expensive while others are totally boring and you wonder why they were even made.

Extended Set Also frequently called Update Set or Traded Set.
They are sets issued after the original release to update the regular set with new and traded players.

Facsimile Autograph is an autograph printed on a card to show what the player's actual signature looks like. They are not "real" autographs.

Factory Set are complete sets usually in special boxes produced by the manufacturer. "Hand-Collated Sets" are sets collectors have put together card by card from packs.
