1969 CITGO Coins

1969 Citgo Coin banner In 1969, to commemorate Baseball's 100th Anniversary, CITGO released their "Famous Baseball Player Coin Collection" of 20 brass coated metal coins. On the front, the coins featured the player's name and a raised image of his head. The back displayed a banner honoring baseball's s 100th Anniversary. The coins are approx. 1" in diameter and are very susceptible to tarnishing due to oxidation.

Customers received a single coin in it's sealed pack free with a fill-up and could pay 25 cents for additional coins. The 20 coin set could be inserted into a cardboard backing for display. On the back of the display was a short bio with stats of each player. Click to view an image of the cardboard backing and some more sample coins:

1954 Topps Baseball Cards

No only did the 1954 Topps issue feature the rookie cards of some of the greatest baseball players of all-time, it also was the 1st appearance of Ted Williams on a Topps card. Topps was so proud of this they made Ted the FIRST (#1) and LAST (#250) card in the set.

1954 Topps was released in three different series, (#1-50), a tougher mid-series (#51-75), and finally (#76-250). Of note for fans of variations, first series cards were issued in Canada with gray backs.

ROOKIE cards of future Hall of Famers Hank Aaron, Al Kaline & Ernie Banks along with cards of SuperStars Ted Williams, Willie Mays, Duke Snider, Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, Jackie Robinson and tons more !!!

"Reaching for the Stars" is a beautiful limited edition HARD-COVER, serially numbered book and one that all Cowboys fans and collectors should own. Each book is individually serially numbered with a print run limited to only 3,000 made !!!

The brand new and never been read book is filled with stories and photos and comes in the original box as direct from the publisher, Taylor Publishing, and is accompanied by their Certificate of Authenticity so you KNOW the autographs are real !

Approximately 8-1/2" x 11" (coffee table size), it features a leather bound hard cover with silver foil stamped title and is extensively illustrated with both color and black and white photographs.

Believe me when I say the photos don't come close to doing this item justice !!!

Protecting and Storing your Card Collection

There are many different ways to protect, organize and store your sports cards.

Soft Sleeves also called "penny sleeves" are the most basic protection for your cards. Made of thin plastic, they come in packs of 100 and are very inexpensive.

Top Loads are rigid plastic holders and a step up in protection over "soft sleeves". Called top-loads because you place the card thru a thin opening at the top. They come in many sizes for regular cards upto 8-1/2 x 11 for magazines and even larger.

Screw-Down Acrylic Holders
These are sometimes used for better, more expensive cards. Small screws hold two pieces of clear acrylic together. In a variety of sizes and thickness that not only protect the card but can funciton as a paper weight or display item.

There are also Single-Screw Screw-Downs that use only 1 screw to seal the holder. They are easier to use and provide the same type of protectionas regular screwdowns and they are also much less expensive costing as little as .30 in quantity while 1 inch or 2 inch acrylic screw-downs can cost upto several dollars.
