1971 O-Pee-Chee/OPC Baseball Cards

1971 OPC O-Pee-Chee baseball card front 1971 OPC O-Pee-Chee baseball card back 1971 Topps Steve Garvey baseball card back O-Pee-Chee is also called OPC and Topps Canadian. Most vintage OPC sets were near replicas of their Topps brothers in the exact same design, with the major difference being the French & English backs. But in 1971, O-Pee-Chee made several changes to their set including a complete redesign of the card backs. OPC also changed over 20 cards including the creation of the first "Traded" cards along with adding more EXPOS to the set including #202 and #289.

1971 OPC's short prints are legendary, at only 5% of Topps' production, making this set very rare even in Canada. Some say 1971 OPC short print high numbers are even scarcer than the very, very scarce 1952 Topps highs, that mostly ended up being dumped deep into the Atlantic ocean.

The Semi-High #'s 524-643 are VERY, VERY costly on eBay and elsewhere on the internet and the High #'s are INSANE !!!
You might as well buy yourself a Tesla then a few Hi#s.

ROOKIES included Hall-of-Famer Bert Blyleven, Steve Garvey, Davey Concepcion, Bobby Valentine, George Foster, Dusty Baker...
TOP STARS: Nolan Ryan, Roberto Clemente, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Ernie Banks, Pete Rose, Ted Williams, Thurman Munson, Reggie Jackson & MORE !!!

1961 Fleer Baseball Cards

1961 Fleer Baseball Box 1961 Fleer Baseball Pack The 1961 Fleer baseball set contained 154 regular-sized cards honoring careers of Hall-of-Famers Babe Ruth, Walter Johnson, Lou Gehrig, Honus Wagner, Ted Williams and many lesser known old-timers.
Released in 2 series, the 2nd series cards #89-#154 are somewhat tougher to find.

Fleer was prevented from using current players by Topps' exclusive rights, so they issued their Baseball Greats set using retired players, managers, executives and the two league commissioners. Luckily Fleer had their own exclusive rights deal with Ted Williams, who quickly became the most in demand card in the set.

1961 Fleer Baseball Greats Unfortunately the weak card design and retired players made it a giant dud with kids and the product was not well received.
Cards were sold in five-cent packs and packaged with two special inserts; a logo team decal and team pennant sticker of past World Series champions.

Baseball card collecting terms (part B)

Bazooka Bazooka Bubble Gum put baseball cards on the back of their boxes from 1959 thru 1971. Complete boxes and panels can get extremely costly. Most kids back then could not afford complete boxes of bubble gum at one making Bazooka cards quite scarce. I actually don't recall ever obtaining a Bazooka card directly from a box as a kid. Do you ???

Black Sox Scandal Name given to the the most famous scandal in baseball history after the 1919 Chicago White Sox versus the Cincinatti Reds World Series when 8 White Sox players were accused of throwing the series. Details have remained somewhat unclear. The players were acquitted of criminal charges but 8 players still received a lifetime ban from professional baseball including the All-Time great "Shoeless" Joe Jackson.

Blank-Back a card in which nothing is printed on the back. These cards are usually not in packs and are either "PROOF ISSUES" or were removed from the factory in some way.

Blanket a term used for collectibles in the 1910's made of fabric .

Border is the part of the card that surrounds the photo or image.

Bowman was a card manufacturer in the 1940's and 1950's that was bought out by Topps. In 1989 Topps started issuing cards using the Bowman brand.

Break a term used to indicate the opening of a set, pack, box or case.

Break Value is the total book value of each card added up individually. The break value of a set is usually way, way more than the value of the complete set.
