1973 O-Pee-Chee Baseball Cards
& Complete Team Sets
1973 O-Pee-Chee baseball, the Canadian verison of 1973 Topps, both
contained 660 cards and were nearly identical in design. The
1973 O-Pee-Chee(OPC) cards, of course were in both French & English
with 'Made in Canada' on back.
Card #1 one is super-cool, picturing the All-Time Home Run Kings
(at the time) Babe Ruth, Willie Mays and Hank Aaron.
Top rookies were Hall-of-Famers Mike Schmidt and Goose Gossage.
Not Hall-of-Famers but darn good were rookies Bob Boone & Dwight Evans.

1979 Topps Baseball Cards Checklist & Values
Highlights of the 1979 Topps baseball card set are:
* Hall-of-Famer Ozzie Smith's rookie card,
* (2) Bump Wills variations; Rangers and the ERROR Blue Jays,
* Special All-Time Leaders with Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, Nolan Ryan...
* Packed as (37) or more cards featured Hall-of-Famers !!!
Given all of the above, the 1979 set is very affordable.
TOP ROOKIES were Hall-of-Famers Eddie Murray, Paul Molitor,
Alan Trammell & Jack Morris.
NOTE: Ozzie Smith is by far the most value card in the set.
Unfortuantely, for some reason, it suffered from poor sheet cutting
and most Ozzie rookies are well off center.

How long have sports cards been around ? (part 2)
The first important and mainstream basketball set was issued by Bowman in 1948.
Other than a Topps set in 1957-58 and a 1961-62 Fleer set, there were no
mainstream basketball sets issued until Topps started producing yearly sets
beginning with their 1969-70 set featuring the rookie card of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar,
who then went under the name of Lew Alcindor.
In hockey, there were a few sets issued in the 1910's and while O-Pee-Chee issued
some sets in the 1930's, the real modern sets began in 1951 with the itroduction
of Parkhurst's first set.
In racing, while cards go back as far as the early Indy car days of 1911,
modern racing sets began in 1988 with the issues released by MAXX.
