Highlights of the 1979 Topps baseball card set are:
* Hall-of-Famer Ozzie Smith's rookie card,
* (2) Bump Wills variations; Rangers and the ERROR Blue Jays,
* Special All-Time Leaders with Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, Nolan Ryan...
* Packed as (37) or more cards featured Hall-of-Famers !!!
Given all of the above, the 1979 set is very affordable.
TOP ROOKIES were Hall-of-Famers Eddie Murray, Paul Molitor,
Alan Trammell & Jack Morris.
NOTE: Ozzie Smith is by far the most value card in the set.
Unfortuantely, for some reason, it suffered from poor sheet cutting
and most Ozzie rookies are well off center.

Sandy Koufax, a legendary left-handed pitcher for the
Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers, is widely considered one of the
greatest in baseball history, known for his blazing fastball
and devastating curveball, as well as his dominance on the
mound, which earned him the nickname "The Left Arm of God".
As a kid, I ... HATED ... Sandy ... Koufax.
I was a Juan Marichal fan. How could you not be.
With that super-cool high leg click and his 1964 Topps card ... he was my guy.
But Koufax was the best.
1963: Marichal: 2.41 ERA and 25-and-8 ... not good enough ... Koufax: 1.88, 25-and-5.
1966: Marichal: 2.23 ERA and 25-and-6 ... not good enough ... Koufax: 1.73, 27-and-9.
OKAY !!! Koufax was the best !!!
Arm issues caused Sandy Koufax to retire. I actually recall feeling sad
back 57+ years ago when I heard.
I also recall thinking: "Now ... no doubt ... everyone will see ... Juan Marichal is the best !!! "
1968: Marichal 2.43 ERA and 26-and-9 !!!
... not ... good ... enough, BOB GIBSON's ridiculous 1.12 ERA !!!
Koufax had several great cards ... but his most expensive is his

Are sports cards valuable ?
Like all collectibles, over time some sports cards go down in value,
others go up and some can even become very valuable.
Card values are based on many factors:
player popularity, scarcity, condition & collector interest.
A card can be scarce but without demand value may not be great.
Q: What are some ways to collect cards ?
* Complete sets by year & issue
* Cards of your favorite player
* Cards of your favorite team "TEAM SETS"
* Rookie cards
* Hall-of-Famer cards
* I even had a girlfriend that collected Don Mossi (checkout his ears),
players whose last name start with "Z", and the Brett brothers George &
Ken (she had a crush on George).
* "TYPE COLLECTING" (everyone should at least do a little of this !)
"Type Collecting"
is collecting at least one of each different "type" of issue.
On scarcer issues you can add a less expensive common
while on others you can select your favorite player or team.
