Vintage 1961 Post Cereal

1961 Post Cereal Baseball Checklist & Values

1961 Post Cereal consisted of 200 cards measuring 2-1/2" by 3-1/2". Post distributed the cards (six each) via the back panel of cereal boxes or through the mail where fans could order certain cards as part of a large pre-perforated sheet. The set was loaded with superstars like Mickey Mantle, Hank Aaron, Roberto Clemente and Willie Mays but the key cards turned out to be very scarce short prints like #73 Chuck Estrada and the scarcest #94 Chuck Stobbs.

There cards were issued in 2 different ways ... on the backs of selected boxes of Post Cereal or you could send away and get special 10-card perforated team sets.

1960 Pirates Tag-Ons Stickers

1960 Pirates Tag-Ons Box This super neat item was similar to but 8 years BEFORE one of my favorites, the 1968 Topps Baseball Action Stickers. There's a link to that issue at the bottom of this snipet.

This great item was issued by Richard-Lawrence Co. of Pittsburgh and honors the legendary World Series champion 1960 Pirates who had just humbled the mighty Yankees.
The (10) 'Tag-Ons' (stickers) inside the brilliantly colorful 16x10 cardboard envelope feature: Roberto Clemente, Dick Stuart, William Mazeroski, Don Hoak, Richard Groat, Robert Skinner, Bill Virdon, Forrest Burgess, Bob Friend and Elroy Face. Notice the formal first names used for "William" Mazeroski, "Richard" Groat and "Forrest" Burgess. 1960 Pirates Tag-Ons

1968 Topps Action All Stars Stickers

Baseball
Baseball card collecting terms (part A)

Airbrushing is the art of touching up a photo prior to the card being printed. It was generally done to remove imperfections or update or hide a players jersey/cap logo. Because of advancements in print technology and computers this is no longer needed.

All-Star card (AS) usually a subset card picturing a player who participated in the previous season’s all-star game. Topps created these in their 1958 High Number issue and has continued the practice fairly regularly to date. Such cards are usually designated in price guides with the abbreviation of AS.

Assorted A general mix of cards often containing many duplicates.

Auction items are sold to the highest bidder. Auctions used to be live or thru the mail/phone but today most auctions are online.

Auction Catalog lists the rules and descriptions and often images of the items in an auction.

Authentication verification that an item (card, autograph) is genuine. Most "game-used" material inserts have a written declaration of authenticity on the reverse. Authorized Issue card or memorabilia item that has been properly licensed. If the item is of a player, his written permission must be given in order for it to be considered authorized.
