1991 Topps Desert Shield cards
Checklist & Values

The 792 card 1991 Topps Desert Shield Baseball card set was issued by Topps for the soldiers serving in the Gulf War. The Desert Shield set is a variation of Topps regular 1991 baseball card with each card having a special gold-foiled 'Desert Shield' stamp added to the front. Many of the cards, scooped up by military personnel stateside, never made it overseas. The equivalent of approx 6,500 sets of cards were made. Cards are still sought after and fairly scarce with complete sets nearly impossible to find. Be aware of counterfeits. Fakes can easily be determined by comparing the gold foil logo with a real Desert Shield card.

The Chipper Jones rookie is the key card in the set along with the usual super stars like Nolan Ryan, Ken Griffey Jr., Cal Ripken ...

1977 Topps Cloth Stickers
Checklist & Values

As 1977 baseball season was winding down, Topps wanted to sell more cards and released the "1977 Topps Cloth Stickers" test issue. The 1977 Topps Cloth Stickers set came in at (73) total cards: (55) cloth stickers and (18) checklist/puzzle cards that formed large photos of the 1976 AL & NL All-Star teams.

2 Stickers and 1 checklist/puzzle card were in each .15 cent pack with 36/packs in a box.

Nearly all fronts are same as the regular issue - with a few different like Nolan Ryan.
LEFT: Regular issue;
CENTER: Cloth Sticker;
RIGHT: O-Pee-Chee (from Canada).

The 2-1/2" x 3" stickers had highlights & instructions on back. The backing was easily removed and kids could stick them everywhere ! TEACHERS LOVED THEM !!!

Packed with Hall-of-Famers (19 of 55) plus Pete Rose and Mark Fidrych. In addition, stickers & puzzle pieces came with one '*' or two '**' asterisks on back.

Some other ways
to sell your baseball cards

Auctions are a very popular way to sell vintage sports cards. My two reasons why:
#1 Desirable items tend to get top dollar (or better !)
#2 Everything goes
...   This can be good  - Everything gone, final total likely reasonably high
...   or can be Very Bad - Everything gone, but at unexpectedly low prices

OTHER WAYS TO SELL YOUR CARDS
eBay (via Buy-it-Now not an auction)
your local card store
your local swap meet
your local Craigslist
your own or a shared garage/yard sale

Donate to charity for the tax write-off
Not selling but perhaps the easiest with still a possible return.
ASSUMPTIONS:
#1) You are one of the RARE tax payers left in America #2) We are talking about mostly "junk" from late 1980's, early 1990's. Consider keeping your better stuff for one of the sell options and donating rest to charity. Tax deductions used to be based on lesser of what it cost and "What-it-is-Worth". For the "What-it-is-Worth" part I use Beckett which usually turns out to be higher than what you paid. Check with your tax guy.
