In racing, while cards go back as far as the early Indy car days of 1911, modern racing sets began in 1988 with the issues released by MAXX. History of Football Cards (T3) The first football card appeared over 100 years ago? 1894 Mayo football cards were the first known cards depicting football players. This set contained 35 cards of the top Ivy League players including one of the most sought after football cards ever made with less than 10 known copies. Picturing an unnamed player, believed to be John Dunlop from Harvard, it is valued at around $18,000 in EX-MINT condition. In 1933, Goudey Gum Company released a multi-sport "Sport Kings" set. This popular set included cards of Jim Thorpe, Red Grange, Knute Rockne along with many other greats from many other sports including Baseball and Boxing. It took 15 years for the next football card set when Bowman and Leaf football cards hit the market. There have been football card sets issued ever year since.

1955 Topps Double-Headers (Doubleheaders) Without a doubt this is my favorite set - PERIOD. Regular issue, test issues, inserts ... whatever ... this is # 1 !!! Patterned after the famous Mecca Double Folders issued in the early 1900's, these colorful 2 1/16" x 4 7/8" cards are actually 2-cards-in-1! They are perforated in the center and depending on which way you fold the card you create cards of 2 different players. Unperforated 1955 Topps Doubleheaders can sometimes be found. The 1955 Topps Doubleheaders set has been featured in many hobby magazines often with a full color spread showing how the individual cards fit together to form a spectacular stadium scene !!! All 132 players (66 cards) in the 1955 Topps DoubleHeaders set were also in Topps regular 1955 issue. TOP ROOKIES: Harmon Killebrew & Hal Newhouser Top STARS: Ted Williams, Hank Aaron, Ernie Banks, Jackie Robinson, Al Kaline, Warren Spahn & MORE !!! No doubt about it - the best !!!

1977 Topps CLOTH STICKERS One of the few Topps specialty issues of the late 1970's, the set contained 55 cloth stickers of the top players of 1977 along with 18 puzzle cards which joined together to form photos of the 1976 American League or 1976 National League All-Star teams. Very attractive visually, these cloth stickers/cards were a separate Topps test issue and sold in their own packs. Each pack contained 2 stickers and 1 checklist puzzle piece. According to S.C.D., player photos on the front are identical to their 1977 regular cards but the backs are different. The regulation card size 2-1/2" x 3-1/2" stickers have a paper backing which lists the player's career highlights and could easily be removed to allow the cloth to be adhered to a jacket, notebook, etc. TOP STARS: Pete Rose, Nolan Ryan, George Brett, Reggie Jackson, Mike Schmidt, Steve Carlton, Carl Yastrzemski, Johnny Bench, Robin Yount, Lou Brock & more! The 1977 Topps Cloth Stickers set also has a scarcer Mark Fidrych ROOKIE card !!!

1952,1953,1954,1955 Red Man TOBACCO Red Man Tobacco issued baseball cards in 1952, 1953, 1954 and 1955, making them the only tobacco company to do so since 1920. The cards are very attractive with a large, painted portrait and a short player's bio on the front. On the back is company advertising. 1/2" tabs at the bottom of each card could be exchanged for a prize. The exchange rate was 50 tabs for one free Big League style baseball cap. Thus, cards with the tabs still intact are much, much, harder to find making them more valuable. Without the tabs it is difficult to determine which year certain players were issued. It is usually easiest to determine the year by looking at the expiration date on the back. Subtract 1 from the expiration year to determine the year of the card. Each set is made up of 25 players from each league all personally selected by Editor J.G. Taylor Spink of the "Sporting News". Managers from each league were included in the 1952 and 1953 sets. The 1954 set had four different variations. That brings the total to only 208 cards to complete your Master Red Man Tobacco Baseball Card Set !!! Start collecting now !
