Protecting and Storing your Baseball and Football Card Collection (T7) There are many different ways to protect, organize and store your sportscards. Soft Sleeves The most basic protector for cards are "soft sleeves" which are often called "penny sleeves". A "soft sleeve" is a thin plastic pouch into which the card can be placed protecting it from scratching and having the gloss rubbed off. Soft sleeves are very inexpensive. They come in packs of 100 with prices as low as around 3 soft sleeves for a penny. Top Loads Top-loads are rigid plastic holders that also provides protection against bending and creasing. They are called top-loads because they have a thin opening at the top allowing you to insert the card. They come in a large variety of sizes from 3-1/2 by 4-1/2 for the normal recent issues upto 8-1/2 x 11 for magazines and even larger. There are also thicker ones perfect for the thick game-used memporabilia cards. We highly recommend putting the card in a soft sleeve first to prtoect it from scratching and moving around before putting it in the top-load. Screw-Down Acrylic Holders These are appropriate for your better, more expensive cards. As the name implies, small screws hold two pieces of acrylic together. They come in a variety of thickness upto 1 or 2 inch acrylic slabs that not only protect the card but can funciton as a paper weight. A type of screw-down called single-screws are the most popular. They are named for the fact that they only use 1 screw to open or close the holder. This makes them easier and quicker to use while providing the same type of protection. They are also much less expensive costing as little as .39 each in quantity. while the thicker 1 inch or 2 inch acrylic screw-downs can cost upto several dollars each.

1958 Hires Root Beer Hires Root Beer issued this 66 card set back in 1958. The cards came with an attached advertising tab. Cards with their tab intact are extremely difficult to find and thus are quite expensive. The actual card size varies from 2-3/8 in. to 2-5/8 in. wide and 3-3/8 in. to 3-5/8 in. high without the tab. Cards are numbered from #10 thru #76 with #69 not issued. The card design - a wood grain "knot hole" through which the player is viewed - is a collector's favorite and was brought back by Bowman for their 2003 Bowman Heritage product. Although small at only 66 cards, the set did contain it's share of cards of Hall-of-Famers and Superstars such as Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Pee Wee Reese, Don Drysdale, Richie Ashburn, Bill Mazeroski, Duke Snider, Larry Doby, Don Newcombe and others...

1969 Topps Stamps This was Topps 3rd stamp issue in the last eight years and it was a good one !!! The stamps were not inserts but a totally separate issue . For a nickel you got a strip of twelve stamps plus a mini album. The 1969 Topps Stamps complete set contains 240 stamps. The 1 x 1-7/16 inch stamps were unnumbered and featured a color photo with the player's name, team and position inside a colored banner at the bottom of the stamp. The stamps were released in both vertical and horizontal strips of 12 stamps. The 1969 Topps Stamps are often confused with Topps' 1974 issue. The 1974 Topps Stamps have ovals rather than banners at the bottom and were released only in 12-stamp horizontal panels. Along with the stamps, Topps also issued a set of 24 albums, one per team, to store them in. The 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" orange albums were the same size as a baseball card and held a complete 10-stamp team set. To add even more collecting fun, the album's back cover had facsimile autographs of the ten players shown in the album.
